Wakao Hanaoka

After working in marine conservation, Wakao founded Seafood Legacy in Tokyo in 2015. He is working on building Japan-centric solutions and regulatory reforms for seafood sustainability by addressing the importance of domestic business-led initiatives. He is a member of Friends of Ocean Action, World Economic Forum (2021~Present). He played an expert advisor of the the Cabinet Office Council for Promotion of Regulatory Reform, Fisheries Working Group and Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries Working Group (2017-2021), also a committee member of Fishery Agency Catch Documentation Working Group and Domestic Trade of Specific Marine Animals and Plants Act Working Group (2018-2021), and a member of several other governmental committees and civil society pre-competitive platforms.

Chris Ninnes was appointed CEO of the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) in October 2011. Before joining the ASC, Chris was Deputy CEO and Director of Operations at the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) from 2006 to 2011, where he led the expansion of the MSC¹s technical and commercial work. From 2003 to 2006 Chris was Vice President of MRAG Americas, which followed his appointment as Technical Director for MRAG Ltd from 1996 until 2002. Chris worked for the UK Department for International Development from 1983 to 2002 where he advised on seafood industry development issues in Africa and the Caribbean. He has also been a professional inshore fisherman.

Nicolas Guichoux

In 1994, after graduating from the French Business School EDC, Nicolas started his career in international business at the French Chamber of Commerce in South Korea. In 1997 he was appointed Export Manager for leading French seafood processor, Cité Marine. Coming from Brittany - the main fishing region in France - Nicolas had long been concerned by the increasing impact of fishing on the environment and on people’s livelihoods. This led him to join the MSC in 2002 as the manager for continental Europe. He later became the Regional Director of Europe in 2007 and in 2013 Global Commercial Director. Since 2018 Nicolas is Chief Program Officer and therefore member of the Marine Stewardship’s Executive Committee, responsible for the development and delivery of its global outreach program strategy.

Yuton Lee is the Project Lead of Taiwan's Oceans Project at Greenpeace East Asia. Greenpeace is an independent global campaigning network that acts to change attitudes and behavior, protect and conserve the environment, and promote peace. Ms. Lee leads a team that conducts research and investigation and develops strategies to combat IUU fishing, overfishing, and human rights abuses at sea. Her team works closely with Greenpeace offices in different regions and countries, including the United States and Southeast Asia, to promote sustainable fisheries. She also oversees the local ocean conservation campaign focusing on protecting marine biodiversity through Marine Protected Areas. Prior to joining Greenpeace, Ms. Lee served as a foreign service officer for 6+ years.

Patima Tungpuchaykul

Patima Tungpuchayakul created LPN in Thailand in 2004 with Sompong Srakaew. Patima's work proved of critical importance when LPN rescued about 2,000 captive and stranded fishermen from isolated Indonesian islands in 2014. The Associated Press supported the rescue and won a Pulitzer Prize for its innovative coverage. Since then, more fishermen have been rescued by LPN.

Tulika Bansal is Senior Adviser in the Human Rights, Business & Technology Department at the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR). For the past 12 years Tulika has advised multinational companies on n human rights and the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, including in the food and beverage, agriculture, fisheries, oil and gas and renewable energy sectors.
Since 2018 she has been leading DIHRs work on the business and human rights in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors. As part of this work, among others, she has led and contributed to studies on the human rights impacts in the Chilean salmon industry and small-scale fisheries in Bangladesh, developed tools on human rights in the fisheries sector, engaged with a wide range of stakeholders on the topic, and led trainings and workshops on the topic for companies, government actors and other actors.
Prior to joining DIHR Tulika worked in Thailand, India and the Netherlands on corporate accountability, child rights, labour rights and community impacts for NGOs and unions. She has an LLM in Public International from Leiden Law School, the Netherlands, where she is a guest lecturer on child rights and business. She is fluent in Dutch, English, Spanish and Hindi.

As Head of Human Rights, Andy was responsible for human rights due diligence across the retailer's global food supply chains. Sally Yozell

Sally Yozell is the Director of the Environmental Security Program at the Stimson Center, a research institution in Washington DC. Her research examines environmental factors which undermine the security of individuals and nations globally. Yozell leads a team who conducts research and develops strategies to combat IUU fishing, thwart illicit networks, and increase transparency along the seafood supply chain. Ms. Yozell also oversees the Climate and Ocean Risk Vulnerability Initiative, a program that builds resilience in coastal communities threatened by the climate crisis. Prior to joining Stimson, Yozell served as a Senior Advisor to U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry where she co-chaired the Presidential IUU Fishing and Seafood Fraud Task Force. She was the Director of Policy and Deputy Assistant Secretary at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, led marine programs at TNC, Battelle Memorial Institute and worked in the US Senate. She holds an MPA from Harvard University.

Emily Langley is a Fisheries Policy Advisor at The Nature Conservancy, with a keen interest in the legislative framework that fisheries management is grounded in. She has almost ten years of experience working on environmental issues, following The Nature Conservancy's approach of working side-by-side with partners, communities and decision-makers. Emily holds a Masters by Research degree in satellite remote sensing of polar regions from the University of Durham, United Kingdom. Coming from a science background, she understands the inextricable link between sound science and policy. This was further strengthened during her time at the Centre for Environmental Policy at Imperial College London.

Atsushi Sunami is President of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation. In the Cabinet Office, he serves as a member of the Economic Security Legislation Council, the Basic Policy Group under the Committee on National Space Policy, and chairs the Okinawa Development Council. He also serves as Chairman of the Committee for Examination and Evaluation of the Subsidy for Research and Study Projects on Diplomacy and Security in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Her work has focused on biodiversity, natural capital, sustainable procurement, business and human rights, ESG investment, SDGs, and regional revitalization.

Martin has been in the seafood sector for over 40 years. Since July 2019 he has been Managing Director of SeaBOS (Seafood Business for Ocean Stewardship) which is a collaborative venture between nine of the world’s largest seafood businesses, and the Stockholm Resilience Centre in Sweden. The aim of that collaboration is to lead a global transformation to sustainable seafood production and a healthy ocean. Martin has worked in various roles in seafood including from industry on the deck of boats and onshore office management, government, and academia. He holds a BSc from Victoria University of Wellington (NZ), a Graduate Diploma in Fisheries Technology from the Australian Maritime College, and is a passionate recreational angler.

Robert Blasiak

Robert Blasiak is a researcher at the Stockholm Resilience Centre, where he focuses on aspects of international cooperation, the sustainable management of ocean resources, and ocean stewardship. He is Lead Scientist of the Keystone Dialogues Project in its current grant phase (2022-2025) and leading the collaboration across the scientific institutions as they engage with the SeaBOS member companies and secretariat. His recent research has dealt with marine biotechnology and the equitable use of marine genetic resources. He is a visiting researcher at the University of Tokyo, where he received his PhD in 2015. He previously worked with the Satoyama Initiative at the United Nations University and completed a post- doctoral fellowship with the Nippon Foundation NEREUS Program. He currently co-leads the “Human Ocean” research theme at the Stockholm Resilience Centre, is a member of the expert group of the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy and the scientific and expert committee of the Ocean & Climate Platform.

Frida Bengtsson

Fridas research focuses on understanding the role of corporate stewardship and government accountability in achieving transformations in the global ocean. The start of her research is to untangle ownership, relations and governance systems facilitating transshipment at sea. Before joining the Stockholm Resilience Centre she worked in the NGO sector and has been involved in several corporate sustainability commitments covering the entire supply chains of seafood production and led multiple science-based ship expeditions to the polar regions. She also serves on the board of Trygg Mat Tracking an non-profit organisation providing national fisheries authorities and international organisations with fisheries intelligence, analysis and capacity building targeting the reduction of illegal fishing.

Currently, he is dedicated to conveying the charm of Hakodate to a diverse audience through numerous foreign-owned 5-star hotels such as the Park Hyatt Tokyo, Michelin-starred restaurants, and restaurants selected by Le Relais & Châteaux.

He is committed to passing on sustainable and responsible fisheries and aquaculture as well as Japanese tempura culture to future generations. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology and a Master of Environmental Management from Duke University. Prior to the current position, he engaged in M&A advisory services at the investment banking division (Tokyo and New York) of Daiwa Securities SMBC (now Daiwa Securities), after which he founded a cross-border e-commerce company.

He was appointed President and Representative Director in 1998. He has served as president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce of Japan and chairman of the Global Citizen Foundation. Dai started his career at the UN FAO through the Young Professional Programme, where he supported the countries in Europe and Central Asia for their GEF and GCF responses. He has been in his current role since April 2023.

Catarina Martins is the Chief Sustainability and Technology officer at Mowi ASA (Norway). Catarina coordinates the implementation of Mowi’s sustainability strategy, Leading the Blue Revolution Plan, which includes the vision of unlocking the potential of the oceans to provide healthy and sustainable food for a growing world population. In addition, she also leads the group’s innovation activities with a team of international experts on fish health and welfare, fish quality and processing, seawater and freshwater production technology and data analytics. Catarina has a PhD in Aquaculture from Wageningen University (The Netherlands), an MBA from The Norwegian School of Economics (Norway), an MSc in Marine Biology from the University of Lisbon (Portugal) and supplementary education on Corporate Sustainability from Harvard University (USA). Chiba Taiga is a graduate at Kesennuma Rias cooking school, in Japan. He has been the winner of the culinary contest Olivier Roellinger, for the preservation of the marine resources, in 2022. The Olivier Roellinger culinary contest aims at mobilising young chefs in the role they can play for marine biodiversity by selecting sustainable seafood on their menu. The contest Olivier Roellinger has been created in Europe in 2011 and has been organised in Japan for the very first time in December 2022, in Hokkaido at Hokkuto Bunka Academy. The second Japanese edition of the contest is planned on the 7 and 8th of October 2023, in partnership with Seafood Legacy.

Enrique Alonso is responsible for managing SFP’s field programs that focus on wild-capture fisheries in Latin America and Southeast Asia. He leads global initiatives that promote improvements in small-scale fisheries and engages the seafood supply chain to foster policy change in national and regional fisheries, while supporting SFP's overall strategy for improvements in other fisheries.
Enrique is a social scientist with extensive experience in fisheries, both as a researcher and a practitioner. Prior to joining SFP, he worked as a Technical Advisor for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) Regional Fisheries Livelihoods Program for South and Southeast Asia in Timor-Leste, and conducted consultancies for a number of international organizations, such as the FAO and the Secretariat of the Pacific Community. Before his current position, he led the Latin America Fisheries program at SFP. Enrique has a Ba is Sociology, an MSc in Coastal and Marine Sustainable Resource Management and a PhD in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the University of A Coruña in Spain.

Maisie Pigeon is the Director of the Coalition for Fisheries Transparency, an international network of civil society organizations committed to improving data transparency in the fisheries sector. She oversees the Coalition's day-to-day work and works closely with the Secretariat staff, Steering Committee, and member organizations to develop strategies to improve fisheries transparency across the globe. Prior to joining the CFT, she spent over a decade working alongside governments and international organizations to promote initiatives to secure maritime spaces, encourage ocean governance, promote blue economic growth, and stabilize coastal communities in Sub-Saharan Africa and elsewhere. Maisie has provided consultation and research support to the Global Maritime Crime Programme at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the International Maritime Organization, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and is a member of the International Board for the Fisheries Transparency Initiative (FiTI).

He worked for international fisheries resources conservation and IUU fishery measures, including tuna, skipjack, Pacific saury, and squid, He was a Fisheries Agency's committee member for Import control rules in 2021.

Tetsushi Hayashi

Graduated from the School of Engineering, Tohoku University in 1985 and joined Nikkei BP in the same year. Covered and reported on the latest technological trends related to communications and information processing. Appointed as Editor-in-Chief of Nikkei Byte in 2002, Editor-in-Chief of Nikkei Network in 2005, and Editor-in-Chief of Nikkei Communication in 2007. Then, after publishing magazines such as ITpro (currently Nikkei xTECH), Nikkei Electronics, Nikkei Monozukuri, and Nikkei Automotive, was appointed as the General Manager of the Overseas Division in 2014. Appointed as the Executive Chief Engineer of the Intelligence Group in 2015. Main research subjects include technology management, digital transformation, and autonomous vehicles. Appointed to the present post in April 2021.
